Kari Pekar Obituary Iowa City Iowa Death: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kari (Mueller) Pekar, former University of Iowa Women’s Volleyball standout, who passed away on June 10, 2026, at the age of 33 following a courageous battle with cancer. Her death has left family, friends, former teammates, and the Iowa community mourning the loss of an extraordinary woman whose strength and determination inspired many.

An Iowa City native, Kari Pekar was known for her competitive spirit, resilience, and dedication both on and off the volleyball court. She proudly represented the University of Iowa Women’s Volleyball program from 2011 to 2014, earning recognition as a hardworking athlete and respected teammate.

During her collegiate career, Kari recorded 357 digs, 33 assists, and 17 service aces, contributing significantly to the Hawkeyes program. Her commitment to teamwork and excellence made a lasting impact on coaches, teammates, and supporters alike.

Beyond athletics, Kari was cherished for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for those closest to her. She was a devoted wife, loyal friend, and beloved family member who brought warmth and positivity wherever she went. Kari is survived by her loving husband, Peter, along with numerous relatives, friends, former teammates, and community members who will forever treasure her memory.

Funeral Arrangements and Celebration of Life
